Cat Block Puzzle

Cat Block Puzzle is a tangram in a cosy disguise. Each piece is a cat curled into its own particular sleeping position, which means no two shapes tuck together the same way and you cannot rely on the tidy squares and lines a block puzzle usually gives you.

Early grids are small enough to solve by feel. Later ones are not, and the habit that gets you through them is placing the most awkward cat first - the long stretched-out ones and the ones with an odd leg sticking out have very few valid homes, while the round curled shapes fit almost anywhere. Nothing is timed and nothing runs out, so a level sits there until you see it.

How to play

Drag each cat from the tray into the grid so that every cell ends up covered, with no gaps and no overlaps. Place the most irregular cats first, since a stretched or angular shape only fits in a couple of spots while a compact curled cat can slot in almost anywhere at the end. If a board looks impossible, it is usually a compact piece sitting where an awkward one needed to go.

Controls

On a computer, hold the left mouse button on a cat, drag it over the grid and release to drop it into place. On a phone or tablet, press and hold the cat with one finger, drag it onto the grid and lift your finger to lock it in.
