Preschool Math is built around one question at a time and nothing else on the screen to distract from it. A sum, a count or a shape appears, a handful of answers sit beneath it, and the child picks one. That is the whole loop, and for the age it is aimed at, the plainness is the point.
There is no end to work towards, which suits practice better than it suits a story. The questions keep arriving, so a session lasts exactly as long as a small person stays interested, and stopping after four minutes costs nothing. Counting, addition, subtraction and shapes all come up, mixed rather than blocked into separate lessons.
How to play
A question shows up on screen with several possible answers below it. Work it out, then click or tap the one that is correct. Nothing has to be typed and nothing has to be written down; every answer is already among the choices, which is what makes it workable for a child who is still learning to hold a pencil. The questions move between counting, adding, taking away and naming shapes, and they keep coming for as long as you keep answering.
Controls
On a computer, everything is done with the mouse: click the answer you believe is correct and the next question follows. On a phone or tablet, touch the correct answer on the screen instead. There is no keyboard input at any point, so a young child can work through it without an adult driving.
