Snake Fruit

Snake Fruit keeps the old idea and softens the edges of it. The field is bright, the snake is friendly to look at, and the fruit turns up somewhere new every time you eat, which means there is no route you can learn and repeat. Children pick it up in seconds; the part that takes longer is patience.

Every fruit adds length, and length is what eventually beats you. A short snake can double back anywhere it likes; a long one has to plan a lap of the field before it turns, because the walls do not move and its own body is now in the way. Touch either and the run is finished, back to the beginning with nothing kept.

How to play

Guide the snake to each piece of fruit that appears on the field. Eating it makes the snake longer, and the fruit reappears somewhere else straight away, so start thinking about the next one while you are still travelling to this one. The snake cannot leave the field or pass through its own body, and touching either ends the game and sends you back to the start. Turn early rather than late.

Controls

The snake is steered with the arrow buttons shown on the screen: press one to send it in that direction and it keeps going until you press another. A mouse click works on a computer and a tap works on a phone, and the snake never stops on its own.
