ABC Kids is built for a child who cannot read yet and does not need to in order to start. Every letter arrives as a shape with arrows drawn on it, and the child pulls a finger along those arrows until the whole form is filled in. Nothing is typed and nothing is spelled.
The sound comes with the shape, so the letter being drawn is also the letter being heard, and matching exercises later ask the child to put the two together. Stickers and toys arrive for finished rounds, which is what keeps a small child moving on to the next letter. Choosing a colour before tracing turns each letter into a small drawing rather than a drill.
How to play
Choose a colour first, then put a finger on the start of the letter and follow the arrows through each stroke until that part is filled. Letters are built in pieces, so change colour and trace again to complete the ones that need a second stroke. The sound of the letter plays as it forms, and matching rounds afterwards ask the child to pair the letter with what they have heard. Finish a round to collect a sticker or a toy.
Controls
A finger on the screen does all of it. Tap a colour to pick it up, then press on the letter and drag along the arrows to fill that stroke; lift, choose another colour and drag again for the parts still empty. Holding the mouse button down and dragging works the same way on a computer.
